Tell me Meghan Markle’s As Ever brand is evolving without telling me evolution is going on behind the scenes.
The Duchess just announced a rather delicious new addition to the As Ever universe: a limited-edition holiday Advent calendar created in collaboration with celebrated Los Angeles chocolatier Compartés.
And this isn’t simply a box of chocolates with Meghan’s name stamped across the front.
The $148 calendar contains 24 handcrafted chocolates tucked inside a keepsake box inspired by the Duchess of Sussex’s Montecito home and garden. It is available for preorder through As Ever, with delivery expected in early November.
There are strawberries. Raspberries. Blackberries. Orange marmalade. Flower sprinkles. Dark chocolate ganache.
In other words, the flavors don’t exist separately from As Ever. They deliberately reach back into products Meghan has already introduced and weave them into something new for the holiday season.
And that is what interests me.
WHEN TWO BRANDS MAKE SENSE TOGETHER
There is another reason this particular launch caught our attention at Marion Chronicles: the collaboration itself.
The best brand partnerships don’t feel as though two marketing departments simply decided to put their logos on the same box. There should be some natural connection between the worlds the two brands inhabit.
As Ever and Compartés have that.
As Ever brings the Duchess of Sussex’s distinctive approach to food, entertaining, gifting and California living. Compartés brings generations of Los Angeles chocolate-making and the exuberant design for which the chocolatier has become known.
The Advent calendar allows both identities to remain visible.

The flavors reference products already familiar to As Ever customers—strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and orange marmalade among them—while Compartés transforms those flavors into handcrafted chocolates. Even the packaging extends the story, drawing inspiration from the Sussexes’ Montecito home and garden.
It is a useful lesson in brand collaboration.
A good partnership doesn’t require one brand to disappear inside the other. Quite the opposite. Each should bring something recognizable to the table, while the resulting product gives customers something new.
And this is not a first encounter between As Ever and Compartés. The companies have worked together before, making the Advent calendar an expansion of an existing relationship rather than a celebrity name suddenly attached to an unfamiliar chocolatier.
For those of us fascinated by brands—and by the increasingly imaginative ways brands find new audiences—that makes this launch worth watching. Because behind the beautiful box and 24 chocolates is something else entirely: two brands understanding what each can add to the other.
And there is another audience worth considering here: women over 50.
Premium chocolate, beautiful packaging, gifting and small luxuries sit comfortably within the lifestyle territory many established female consumers already inhabit. A $148 Advent calendar is not an impulse purchase, which makes the customer with both an appetite for luxury and the means to indulge it particularly interesting.
CHRISTMAS PLANNING — IN JUNE
Meghan also gave followers a glimpse of just how far in advance this seemingly effortless holiday moment was being planned.
In footage shared on Instagram, the Duchess revealed herself working with Compartés creative director Jonathan Grahm back in June. Sketches of the calendar can be seen as the pair work through the project months before consumers would ever see the finished product.
Which brings us right back to where we started.
Tell me As Ever is evolving without telling me evolution is going on behind the scenes.
While the public sees a beautiful Advent calendar arriving in time for Christmas, behind it is a product conceived months earlier, developed with an established collaborator, aesthetically connected to Meghan’s home and incorporating flavors associated with products already sitting inside the As Ever catalogue.
That’s the interesting part.
A LITTLE PIECE OF MONTECITO FOR CHRISTMAS
Perhaps the cleverest element is the calendar itself. The keepsake design is inspired by Meghan’s Montecito home and garden—the palm trees, greenery and California world that have become part of As Ever’s visual vocabulary.
Open the doors and the connection continues. The chocolates incorporate flavors drawn from As Ever’s strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and orange marmalade spreads. There’s a chocolate featuring the brand’s Flower Sprinkles and a Compartés dark chocolate ganache truffle. There are 24 pieces altogether.
Even the countdown carries Meghan’s personal touch: the numbers reproduce her handwriting and are hand-painted in edible gold luster.
At $148, this clearly isn’t the supermarket Advent calendar you throw into your trolley while buying milk. It is positioned as a luxury gift, befitting a Duchess. It is a keepsake, a collectible and a little physical piece of the As Ever world—something designed to remain desirable even after the last chocolate has disappeared….Speaking of collectible, there is also the hardcover version of A Cotswolds Style Capsule: Imagining the Duchess’s Time in England which very well is a collectible from our list. You can purchase it on AMAZON.
And perhaps the most interesting thing about Meghan Markle’s latest launch isn’t chocolate at all.
It’s what happens when two California brands with strong identities discover that they have something worth creating together.
Now if we could only get them to recognize women over 50 as an important target market.
